The "gentle endoscopy" of the gastrointestinal tract is the focus of my practice in 1020 Vienna.
Gastroscopy is the most meaningful examination method for clarifying heartburn (reflux), pain in the upper abdomen, as well as a feeling of fullness, frequent nausea and vomiting. However, it also serves to clarify the cause of anaemia (iron deficiency) and to monitor the therapy of gastric and duodenal ulcers.
Colonoscopy is the most important instrument for screening of colorectal cancer! Benign early forms (polyps or adenomas) can be removed painlessly, so that colorectal cancer cannot develop at all. All symptom-free women and men aged 50 and over should undergo a screening colonoscopy! The clinical practice is ÖGGH-quality certified for colorectal cancer screening.
Colonoscopy is also an important tool for clarifying symptoms such as chronic diarrhoea, constipation, blood on / in the stool, positive hemoccult test, unclear abdominal pain and anaemia (iron deficiency).
Presence of diarrhoea every time or every positive hemoccult test (blood in the stool) does not automatically mean that colorectal cancer can be diagnosed. Infectious processes, chronic inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn's disease / colitis or haemorrhoids can often lead to these symptoms. A precise diagnosis can only be determined with the help of colonoscopy.
